Allergies can be frustrating to both diagnose and treat! However, in all cases the reaction to the allergen (causing agent), is to stimulate the MAST cell in the body to elicit histamine; thus the antihistamines are the mainstay of treatment! Steroids work well, but can’t be used on a continued basis except for the steroid nasal sprays. An Epi Pen should be carried by those who are highly allergic as it can be lifesaving! An allergist gets involved when the diagnosis becomes difficult or for allergy shots which can sometimes help!
