Mr. H (anonymous)

Hello Doctor Barry. I get severe panic attacks over the silliest things. Where I live, it’s legal to get a prescription for medical marijuana. I’ve tried that for a year and it really didn’t help me.  It just made me feel slow and mentally dull. Then I tried klonopin for a week after thinking I had a heart attack. It was the best most normal week of my life. I don’t want to take drugs though. This is probably an impossible question, but is there anything I can do like drink a special tea or something else?  Also (sorry for the tough one), can panic attacks hurt me? It feels like I’m dying for about 20 seconds to 2 minutes.

Panic attacks and anxiety are tough issues. The Klonopin of course is a Benzodiazepine class of drug similar to Valium. Counseling, biofeedback, and natural remedies have a strong role to play in avoiding taking medication on a regular basis. The Klonopin can be used on an as needed, PRN, basis safely as well. Make sure to discuss all these options with your doctor or other health care professional.
